Los Angeles Kings play host to the Colorado Avalanche
The second game of Saturday will played at the Staples Center as the Los Angeles Kings play host to the Colorado Avalanche. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two teams during the course of the season. Out of the three games that have
taken place between the two teams during the course of the season, the Kings have all of the three games and they will be looking to win the series with a clean sweep.
The Kings are caught up in a battle for the final few play-off spot and will be looking to come up with a dominating performance against the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche is really struggling but they have won two out of their last three games. They
have done this after long time as these two wins come after the Avalanche lost 20 out of their 21 games.
The Avalanche was on a 10 games losing streak which they finally broke this Saturday as they were up against the Edmonton Oilers. They won the game after shootout. The next win that they came up with was a few days later on Tuesday as they faced the Columbus
Blue Jackets which they won 4-3 after shootout.
They were looking good and expected to win the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their Thursday’s encounter. However, they lost the game 4-3 after coming up with a decent display of ice hockey.
"We found a way to claw back into it and we had a couple of chances when we pulled the goalie," coach Joe Sacco said after the loss to the Leafs. "But we weren't able to capitalize. I like the fact that we played to the end, but catch-up hockey is tough
to play in this League."
The Avalanche have played 73 games during the course of the season so far out of which they have won 28 games in regulation time, eight games in overtime to score a total of 64 points. On the other hand, the Kings have played 74 games during the course of
the season out of which they have won 42 games in regulation time, six games in overtime to score a total of 90 points.
The Kings are in need to points if they want to insure themselves for a spot in the play-off. This is the final game of a five games home stand and they are expected to win the game. They won their last game against the San Jose Sharks 4-3 after shootout.
"Obviously we're trying to make a push and that's a team that we want to jump in the standings and try to win the Pacific Division here," goalie Jonathan Quick said following the win.
