Los Angeles Kings’ public announcer David Courtney dies at 56, after serving for 35 year
David Courtney, a public announcer of Los Angeles Kings, the current Stanley Cup Champions, died on Thursday after serving for 35 years. Courtney was also the announcer for Los Angeles Clippers of National Basketball Association (NBA) and Los Angeles Angels
of Major League Baseball (MLB).
All three teams were deeply saddened and made the announcement about the announcer’s death. The reason of the death and the cause was not mentioned by anyone and it is still unknown but condolences were made by the players and the officials of the teams.
Courtney was associated with Kings for 34 years whereas he was associated with Angels for last 18 years. It was just his 3rd year with the Clippers’ team but still the Basketball team will miss one of the most entertaining and lively announcer
of the game.
The deceased had previously served the Kings as the Public Relation Director in the 70s and then was made announcer later on. Los Angeles Kings’ director of business operations, Luc Robitaille issued a statement in which he expressed his grief on the death
of Courtney. He praised his passion for the game and the team and mentioned that he was also passionate about the fans as he said,
"David was tremendously passionate about the Kings, our fans and the game of hockey”.
Robitaille also mentioned the fact that it would have been the announcer’s 35th year with their team, he had lived and also condoled the widow of him. He also condoled the family as he added,
"Next season would have been David's 35th year with our franchise, and on behalf of the entire Kings organization and AEG we are incredibly saddened by this news and we send our deepest condolences to his wife Janet and the rest of the Courtney family."
Los Angeles Angels said in the statement that they are deeply saddened and admitted that he was a great guy and had a great voice, as they said,
"The Angels family is deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. He was a gentle soul, a consummate professional and an unforgettable voice”.
Los Angeles Clippers revealed that they lost a friend as they said,
"Today our organization lost a good friend”.
