Los Angeles Kings put St. Louis Blues on verge of elimination with 4-2 win -NHL Playoffs Update
Chris Stewart fought to keep his team in the game but Los Angeles just was outright brutal as Kings dominated St. Louis Blues for a third straight victory and put them on the verge of elimination following Game 3 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL)
Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Semi-Finals.
As the series came to Los Angeles, Kings were known for playing well at the STAPLES Center and wished to continue winning here like they did at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
Being the underdogs going into the series against a hot headed team like St. Louis, Los Angeles’ offence has just proved to be too great for the Blues to handle and have given up 12 goals in the last three matchups alone.
"It's one of those things where we play a hard, physical game," KBrown said. "We have everyone being physical, bumping. When you have 20 guys doing that to you for 60 minutes, it can be a frustrating game. We've done it for three games. Now it's important
to do it for a fourth game. We have a stranglehold on this series. Now it's having that killer instinct."
Justin Williams kicked off the scoring for his second of the postseason 13:33 into the opening period followed by an equaliser from Chris Stewart in the second period.
St. Louis and Los Angeles were levelled at 1:13 into round-two, but Kings fired back hard as Dwight King and Mike Richards added two straight.
Stewart potted St. Louis’ second and last of the night while Los Angeles’ top defenseman, Drew Doughty, finally got his name on the scoreboard with his first goal of the playoffs to secure the match.
"When you have success, you gain confidence, and we've been playing the same system and the same style for a while now," Richards said. "We're maybe a little surprised it's going like this, but we knew going into every game we have a chance to win."
Los Angeles has the chance to be the first one to advance into the conference finals as St. Louis is on the brink of elimination. Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday, May 6 in Los Angeles.
