Los Angeles Kings re-sign Jarret Stoll, Colin Fraser along with picking up Tanner Pearson –NHL Update
Los Angeles Kings made a couple of quick moves on Friday night, June 22, 2012, by re-signing veteran forwards, Jarret Stoll and Colin Fraser, along with picked up Tanner Pearson of the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Barrie Colts club using their 30th
overall selection during the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.
Stoll and Fraser were both set to become unrestricted free agents when the July 1st deadline came but Los Angeles had already expressed the desire to re-sign both players and officially doing so would be the only real formality left.
Fraser was given the same contract he had before, a two-year, $1.65 million deal, keeping him on the club until at least the 2013-2014 NHL regular season came to an end. Stoll on the other hand was given a longer, three-year deal worth a cool $9.75 million,
making him a UFA on July 1, 2015.
Colin Fraser is a 27-year-old forward that provides the Kings with extensive depth on the fourth line. Last season, in his first with Los Angeles, Fraser put up eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 67 games played.
"I don't call them our fourth line," Sutter said during the Stanley Cup Finals against New Jersey Devils. "I call it Colin Fraser and whoever is playing with him."
Stoll on the other hand, potted 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) in 78 games played and really had a huge performance in the playoffs by playing in all 20 games and registering five points (2 goals, 3 assists).
Kings are also hoping that Pearson will evolve into a top-notch player seeing how he performed in the minor leagues over the past few seasons. Last year, Pearson put up 91 points (37 goals, 54 assists) in 60 games.
"There was a lot of what appealed to us, the character, and what we value as a personal makeup," Kings Director of Amateur Scouting, Mark Yannetti, said. "He has that in spades. He's a character kid."
"You've got to know you're going in to a good team. They just came off a Cup victory, so they want to defend that Cup next year," Pearson added.
