Los Angeles Kings relishing first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history -NHL Update
Being known to be a Stanley Cup winning team is one thing but being a part of a squad that got the franchise their first championship in National Hockey League (NHL) history just makes it all the better.
Los Angeles Kings are savouring every moment of their Stanley Cup celebration and hope to spend the whole offseason doing so. Like the Boston Bruins last year, Kings are going to cherish taking it home individually and go on live TV shows as a team and describe
the whole process.
Kings head coach, Darryl Sutter, is certainly thrilled at leading his team to the Stanley Cup championship, but also wants them to focus on winning it again next season.
"The first thing you think about as a coach, these guys are all young enough, they've got to try it again," the Sutter said on Monday, June 11, 2012.
Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Jonathan Quick, recalls the first day Sutter came in to coach the team. Seeing how former coach, Terry Murray, was fired for their declining performance, the players felt the impact and knew they had to change.
"Obviously, Darryl [Sutter] came in [December] and I felt like everybody felt a little more accountable for their own actions, their day-to-day play, practice, everything," Quick said.  "Obviously at the end of the day, you know, no matter what, it's got
to come from the room and guys have to make a decision to work. I think we did that. You can't say enough about this group and how hard they worked."
Winning their first cup in nearly 45 years and 19 years after their previous chance at doing so with Wayne Gretzky on the team, the current Kings roster must definitely be proud of their accomplishments.
All that hard work has finally paid off for the Los Angeles Kings team that pretty much partied all night long after winning the most coveted prize in the hockey world.
Stanley Cup celebrations on the streets of Los Angeles are set for Thursday while team members will be making appearances on shows like “The Tonight Show” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in the upcoming days.
