Los Angeles Kings rest before tough competition in Stanley Cup Final -NHL Playoffs Update
Los Angeles Kings have worked hard and have gone through a lot so far in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs and can now rest before they get back at it again and this time, for the most coveted prize in the hockey world.
For the first time in 19 years, Kings are back in the race to take and cup and the city of angels, Los Angeles, is finally converting back into a hockey town.
"It was like driving down a hallway filled with human flesh," Kings’ Dustin Penner said. "You couldn't see anything but people screaming and Kings jerseys. Not anything anyone will forget ever … It's a nice little feather to put in your hat, especially in
a city like L.A."
Getting a coach like Darryl Sutter was one of the biggest reasons that can be termed to get Los Angeles Kings to wear they are now after Kings let go of Terry Murray earlier in the 2011-2012 NHL regular season.
"I think any time you make the playoffs, it's something for the franchise," Sutter said. "I think any time you win a round, it's important to the franchise. Any time you get to play for a conference championship, it's important for the franchise. It's for
everybody that's a part of it. It's awesome. It's a great experience. I keep saying, ‘Experience the experience.'"
After Kings came out of the quarterfinal series against 2011 NHL Stanley Cup finalists, Vancouver Canucks, victorious in just five games, people knew that Los Angeles was serious this time.
Their streak got even better when they knocked out second seeded St. Louis Blues in a clean four-game sweep and then Phoenix Coyotes in Game 5.
Los Angeles Kings are definitely favourites to take the cup home this year and will have enough time to improve on their weaknesses, if there are any, before heading into the Stanley Cup Finals against either New Jersey Devils or New York Rangers.
They have at least until Sunday to see who the victor is from the Eastern Conference Final that is if New Jersey Devils do not eliminate Rangers in Game 6 on Saturday.
