Los Angeles Kings sign veteran forward Ethan Moreau to one-year contract –NHL offseason Update
Los Angeles Kings added defensive and offensive depth to their roster by signing free agent veteran left winger, Ethan Moreau, to a one-year contract, worth an estimated $600,000 on Saturday, August 20th, 2011, announced the club.
Moreau was signed on by Columbus Blue Jackets last season after leaving his long time team, Edmonton Oilers, which he was a part of for nearly 11 seasons and managed to appear in only 37 games, recording only six points (1 goal, 5 assists) along with finishing
off with a plus-minus rating of -9 and 24 penalty minutes.
Drafted as the 14th overall pick during round-one of the 1994 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Chicago Blackhawks, the 35-year-old has played with a number of teams throughout his career as a forward player.
After being picked up from Niagara Falls Thunder team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Moreau was sent to play for Sudbury Wolves for nearly half a season and was recalled by Blackhawks during the 1995-1996 regular season to participate in eight matchups
and picked up a single assist.
He participated with their affiliate in the International Hockey League (IHL), Indianapolis Ice, for 71 games the remainder of the season and contributed 41 points (21 goals, 20 assists).
It was during the 1996-1997 season that Chicago gave Moreau a chance at his first full 82-game season as he potted 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists) and managed to finish off with a plus-minus rating of 13.
He was traded to Edmonton Oilers near the end of the 1998-1999 season and played 14 games with the Canadian franchise, for a total of six points (1 goal, 5 assists).
The Hunstville, Ontario, Canada native, in all, has played 900 major league games and has up until now, recorded 283 points (146 goals, 137 assists).
He certainly might not be the highest performing player on the team but looking at it again, Los Angeles does not want him to be a high scoring force either.
Los Angeles Kings plan on using Ethan Moreau in a more of a leadership providing player, a role that he can easily fit into.
