Los Angeles Kings snap seven-game losing streak, shutout Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 -NHL Update
The Los Angeles Kings made a comeback with a bang by snapping their seven-game losing streak at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States, on Wednesday night, December 28, 2011, as they shutout the top team in the league, the Chicago Blackhawks,
2-0.
Chicago on the other hand, was on a two-game winning streak, which was now snapped by the Kings as Los Angeles’ goalie, Jonathan Quick, had an amazing performance by blocking all 38 shots on his net, while his counterpart in the Blackhawks’ net, Corey Crawford,
faced the same amount of attempts but fell short on two.
"He was unbelievable", former New York Islanders veteran forward, Trent Hunter, said of Quick. "He's done that for us all year. You look at the way he played tonight and he was just a wall in there. He's been solid all year, but he played unbelievable again
tonight".
Hunter made the go-ahead goal for Los Angeles and the opening one of the night, a little over midway through the second period for his second of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as both teams failed to score in the first 20 minutes.
Jarret Stoll was the man to secure the match for Los Angeles and finish the scoring with his rebound goal after Mike Richards failed to capitalise on his penalty shot in the before the second intermission after Justin Williams had his opportunity deflected.
Los Angeles also killed of their only penalty of the period as Dustin Brown was booked at the 15:28 mark for holding with a minor penalty.
Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks captain, was frustrated at the idea of his team being unable to score a single goal throughout the 60-minute contest despite numerous chances at the Los Angeles net.
"It's disappointing we couldn't find a way to take advantage of some of those chances at the end, but it is what it is", Toews said. "Give (Quick) credit, he's a good goaltender. He was making some big stops out there".
Los Angeles will be facing off with the Jets when they travel to Winnipeg on Thursday, while Chicago has the next against Detroit Red Wings a day later on Friday.
