Los Angeles Kings square off against the Phoenix Coyotes
The Los Angeles Kings will be hosted another one of Thursday’s games at the Staples Centre as they face the Phoenix Coyotes. This will be the fifth meeting between the two sides during the course of the season.
The Coyotes have been dominant in the series as they won the first three games easily 4-2, 6-3 and 2-0.
However, the Kings were able to bounce back in their last game which took place on the 22nd of January and won the game 4-3 in the end.
Kings have added Dustin Penner to their squad after acquiring from the Edmonton Oilers. He is expected to make his debut during the game as the Coyotes are looking to snap a four games consecutive losing streak.
Though the Coyotes are going through some tough times in the season but one good thing during the slump is the fact that some new additions to the squad have been performing very well. Rostislav Klesla, while making his debut scored this past Tuesday.
The Coyotes were in good shape and fought their way back into the game to level the scores.
However, they weren’t able to capitalize from the chances they got but the Dallas Stars came up with a decent performance that saw them scoring a game winning goal with just four seconds of play left.
Ray Whitney levelled the scores in the final period but Jamie Benn scored the winner for the Stars.
"It's an awful way to lose a game," Captain Shane Doan said.
The Coyotes have played 65 games during the course of the season out of which they have won 33 games in regulation time, secured at least a point in ten games scoring a total of 76 points.
On the other hand, the Kings have played 63 games during the course of the season. Out of as many games, they have won 35 games in regulation time, four games in overtime and scored a total of 74 points.
The Kings were going through a good phase in the season when suddenly they lost their touch and after being in the play-off cut for quite some time they slipped down and are in the final play-off position now.
In their last game against the Detroit Red Wings this past Monday, the Kings were no way near the Kings we know as they were terrible in the opening part of the game which in the end saw them losing 7-4.
However, the Coyotes are hoping for the best with the addition of Dustin Penner in the squad now.
He came up with decent performances with the struggling Edmonton Oilers who are last in the league. He scored 21 goals, 18 assists to pile up a total of 39 points.
"If I do get a chance to play with (Kopitar), obviously he's a big body and I think our styles would blend well together," Penner said while being excited over the fact of playing with Anze Kopitar.
