Los Angeles Kings struggles against Detroit Red Wings falling to a 7-4 defeat – NHL Updates
In a series of unexplainable events, it looks like Detroit, which is ranking 3rd overall in the NHL, seems more comfortable away rather than at home, recording their sixth straight win on the road against Los Angeles Kings on Monday night by 7-4.
LA was back in form, but time wasn’t on its side as they scored most goals in the ending moments of the exciting matchup at the infamous Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
18,118 fans witnessed LA Kings rise to retake its throne and put in a good effort but still lost because of the huge goal difference.
Detroit has finished off the month, thrashing some of the biggest playoff contenders at its home grounds, as LA Kings hasn’t had it that bad either, winning 8 of its past 13 games.
Michal Handzus was the first to score for LA in the opening five minutes of game time, but it was all Red Wings from there on.
Detroit dominated the match making LA look foolish to even have tried. Drew Miller, Daniel Cleary and Nicklas Lidstrom started scoring just two minutes after Handzus and didn’t stop. It was 3-1 at the end of the first period.
Pavel Datsyuk contributed his 19th goal of the season with under a minute remaining and the only one during the second twenty minutes, during a power-play when Jarret Stoll was penalised for hooking Pavel Datsyuk.
Detroit was on a roll and breaks in between the matchup didn’t mess up its form, with Darren Helm getting a shorthanded goal, the first two minutes in, followed up by Drew Miller and Jiri Hudler scoring within the next eight minutes, weighing down LA Kings
by a huge 7-1 discrepancy.
All hopes were lost for LA until Dustin Brown raised momentum for his team at the 12:26 mark, causing Wayne Simmonds and Brad Richardson to fire one each through Jimmy Howard who made a crucial 35 saves for Detroit.
Kings had less than a minute left after its final goal, making defeat inevitable.
Although LA lost, they still stand confident at 5th place in the Western Conference and have incredibly improved its performance since the start of the All-Star weekend.
