Los Angeles Kings travel to play against Edmonton Oilers – NHL Preview
The Los Angeles Kings have successfully secured a position in the comfort zone of National Hockey League (NHL) Western Conference, but they still have not got any respite as they are closely chased by San Jose Sharks.
Kings have five more games to play in the regular season and if they manage to win all of them, they will certainly be playing in the postseason.
A game against the Edmonton Oilers, who are already out of the playoff contention, might not prove to a difficult one for Kings, but they should refrain from complacency.
Kings and Oilers are going to face each other on Friday, March 30, 2012, at Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Let’s take a look at both teams.
Kings
They are ranked at eighth spot in the Western Conference with 88 points after 77 games. They are chased by the Sharks, who have the same number of points after playing 78 games.
Kings have played 13 games this month and have won nine.
In their last game, Kings defeated Calgary Flames in an impressive manner. Kings scored a goal each in all the three periods while goaltender, Jonathan Quick, got his ninth shutout of the season.
Quick said after the game:
"You always expect a little more than four shots. It's a credit to the way the guys played in front of me. They were solid all night long as far as defensively goes."
Oilers
They are ranked at 14th spot in the Western Conference with 71 points after 77 games and are officially eliminated from the playoff contention.
They have lost two of their last four games with the recent defeat coming against Dallas Stars.
Dallas got a goal each in every period while Oilers got their only scoring move in the final period when Stars had already scored three goals.
Oilers’ right wing, Jordan Eberle, said after the game:
"It seemed like the game was there for the taking all night for us, but we just couldn't get into the game. Teams should be scared to come into our building and play us with the speed and puck movement we have."
Predictions
Kings have an edge.
The sum of goals scored by both teams might stay under six.
If Oilers win, the winning margin will be less than two goals.
