Los Angeles Kings win 3-2 against Dallas Stars in an intense and tight match between the two sides
The third game of Sunday was played at the American Airlines Arena as Dallas Stars hosted Los Angeles Kings.
Kings were looking for their third straight win to move ahead of the tight battle for the playoffs while Stars were looking to recover from the recent inconsistency.
The game started off with both teams attacking but it was Kings who managed to score the only goal in the period to lead as the teams went into the break.
Both teams came up with a decent performance in the next two periods to score a goal apiece in the next two periods.
In the end, it was Kings who won the game by 3-2.
Michal Handzus of Kings was named the star of the game as he scored the winning goal.
Kings were the dominating force at the start of the game as they firing shots on goal. Their passing was brilliant and defence was also commendable. Not only did they stop attacks but came up with some brilliant plays that put them in scoring positions every
now and then.
Kings didn’t too long to score as they bagged the opening goal in the fourth minute. The goal was scored by Drew Doughty from a powerful long range shot during power play. The period saw Kings continuingly firing shots on goal but they weren’t able to find
the back of the net with the same consistency.
Stars also came up with a couple of shots as the period was nearing its end. However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with Kings leading 1-0.
During the course of the period, Stars made five shots on goal while Kings made 9 shots on goal.
The second period started off with Kings continuing to fire shots on goal. With the strong shots on goal they created several chances for themselves. However, during the period Stars were not far behind as they too came up with some brilliant plays.
Kings doubled their lead with another goal in the 15th minute which was scored by Dustin Penner from a well placed flick shot.
Stars also came up with some decent display of ice hockey that saw them scoring in the 18th minute through Brad Richards to cut the lead to a single goal.
The period ended with Kings leading 2-1. During the course of the period, Stars made 12 shots on goal while Kings made 9 shots on goal.
The final period saw both teams battling out hard and it was not until the final minute that Stars scored through Jamie Langenbrunner to level the scores.
It looked as if the game would go into overtime but Kings scored through Michal Handzus to win the game by 3-2 in the dying stages.
