Los Angeles Kings wins 3-2 against the Anaheim Ducks
The final game was played at the Honda Centre, as the home team Anaheim Ducks was up against the Los Angeles Kings. Both teams were going through some tough times and were level on points with 68 points. The Kings were in the final play-off spot with the
Ducks a place beneath them. A win for either would help them a lot in the race to play-offs.
The game started off with both teams pretty much even with the Kings leading 2-1 at the end. Both teams were able to score a goal each in the next two periods. Resultantly, the Ducks fell short by a goal as the Kings won the game 3-2 in the end. Willie Mitchell
of the Kings was named the star of the game for scoring the winning goal in the final period.
Both teams made a slow start to game after which the game caught pace and there were regular shots on goal. There were several occasions early on where it looked as if the teams would score but this didn’t happen.
Things settled down and the Kings took the lead with a superb goal in the 13th minute. Jack Johnson was the creator of the move as Ryan Smyth gave it the final touch. However, the joy was short-lived as the Ducks weren’t far behind as they scored
in the very next minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Teemu Selanne from a brilliant shot.
The period saw the teams coming up with a few more shots on goal but it was not until the 18th minute that we saw the next goal. The goal was scored by Anze Kopitar from a brilliant tip in shot to put the Kings into the lead once again.
The period saw a few more goal attempts as the period ended with the Kings leading 2-1. During the course of the period, the Kings made 10 goal attempts while the Ducks made 12 goal attempts.
The second period started period with both teams reluctant to go on the attacks. However, it was just a matter of time after which the two teams started to construct some brilliant plays. The only thing they lacked as that of finding the back of the net.
However, the Ducks scored in the 11th minute through Corey Perry to level the scores. The period witness thing heating up as the end approached. Long range shots were seen during the period but none of these found the back of the net.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with the Ducks making 9 goal attempts in the period while the Kings made 5 goal attempts.
The final period was totally defence dominated and there were almost no goal attempts during the period. However, this was after the Kings caught the Ducks defence napping in the 7th minute and scored through Willie Mitchell’s powerful strike
to get into the lead.
The period didn’t see much happening after this as the period and the game ended with the Ducks winning the game 3-2 in the end. The final period of the game saw the Kings making 3 goal attempts while the Ducks made 6 goal attempts.
