Los Angeles Kings wins 4-3 against San Jose Sharks in a shootout after a goalless overtime
The final game on Thursday was played at the Staples Center as Los Angeles Kings was up against San Jose Sharks, a game which it won 4-3 in a shootout.
Both teams needed to win the game to stomp their hold in the Western Conference for finishing in the playoffs. A win for Kings was more important as it’s at seventh position and in the middle of a tight battle.
The game began with both teams creating numerous scoring chances for themselves but none of the shots made by the teams found the back of the net.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
The second period saw Sharks showing dominance in offence and scoring early in the period. However, Kings was able to respond and scored twice to lead at the end of the period.
The final period saw Sharks scoring twice while Kings scored a single goal.
The scores were level at the end of regulation time and it was Sharks who won the game 4-3 after a shootout.
Dustin Brown of Kings was named the star of the game as he scored two goals.
Both teams made a strong offensive start which saw them making shots on goals and strong attacking plays right from the word go. However, the shots they made on goal at the start were not able to find the back of the net.
The accuracy and play-making was brilliant but the goal keeper did an excellent job in the opening 20 minutes of play. The period ended without any goals and the scores level on 0-0.
During the course of the period, Sharks made 9 shots on goal while Kings made 13 shots on goal.
The second period began with Sharks very dominant on attacks and they scored in the very first minute through Joe Pavelski’s simple tip-in shot to get into the lead. Kings took over the game from there and controlled the pace of the game.
The home team scored in the 8th minute and scored through Dustin Brown’s brilliant backhand shot to level the scores.
Willie Mitchell was on target for Kings in the very next minute. He scored from a powerful strike to put Kings in the lead.
The period ended with Kings leading 2-1 as it made 14 shots on goal while Sharks made just four shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Sharks starting off strong on the attack and they scored through Patrick Marleau to level the scores.
Kings managed to get back in the lead with another goal in the 19th minute which was scored by Brown once again.
However, Sharks levelled the scores in the final minute with just five seconds left. The goal was scored by Marleau from a well placed flick shot. The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 and the games went into overtime.
No goals were scored during overtime but Kings won the game 4-3 after the shootout.
