Los Angeles Lakers’ Andrew Bynum leaves Sunday’s game early due to sprain ankle – NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers were amongst the few teams without major health issues but the status changed on Sunday night when Andrew Bynum had to leave the game limping due to sprain in his left ankle.
The injury jolted Lakers fans but the 7 feet centre didn’t sound too worried about it and neither did the coach had any sweat on his brow.
"I think it's OK," Lakers coach Mike Brown said of Bynum's injury. "He was able to walk out, and I just saw him as he left. ... I don't think it's going to be long-term."
He suffered the injury in the 1st quarter of the game while trying to block Warriors power forward David Lee’s shot. With 1:49 left in the opening frame he left the court limping but didn’t use any crutches or golf cart.
Courtesy of Black Mamba’s (Kobe Bryant) 40 points Lakers did manage to hand over a 120-112 defeat to Warriors. Later on after having detailed examinations and X -rays it was revealed that Bynum suffered a minor sprain but his participation in the upcoming
games is still not cleared.
Lakers are scheduled to have an important game against Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, Clippers are 3-1 against Lakers in this season and are on the verge of winning the season series for the 1st time since 1992-93 season.
Los Angeles will be requiring 100% from Bynum as he holds a key position in the team’s success. He started all 49 games after the 4-game suspension in the start of the season averaging 17.9 points, 11.9 boards and 1.5 assists per game. Scoring as high as
37 points and 16 rebounds on March 14th, 116-111 victory over Memphis Grizzlies.
He was voted for the 1st time to participate in NBA All-Star game and Lakers talisman Kobe Bryant was all praise for him.
"He's gotten better, you see him working on his footwork a lot, he has a lot of moves in his arsenal that he didn't have before. He's much more comfortable doing it and he's gained a great deal of confidence."
Bynum has been having turbulent relations with coach lately; he was benched in the game against Golden State Warriors last week. After taking an ill-advised 3-pointer and said that he will keep taking shots like that. Moreover during the Saturday game against
New Orleans Hornets, Andrew said that he didn’t participate in team’s huddles during the time out as he was resting. He was fined with an undisclosed sum of money by the franchise on the candid remark.
“Getting my Zen on."
With 33 wins and 20 loses, Lakers are currently on the 3rd spot for playoffs in the Western Conference but they are being closely chased by Clippers. The last thing they want to see is a career jeopardizing injury to any of their lead scorer.
Fortunately they don’t have to worry much about Bynum as he will be recovering soon.
