Los Angeles Lakers’ Andrew Bynum’s right knee injured; might miss a few games
Andrew Bynum has been the main element in the Los Angeles Lakers’ winning streak after the All-Star game. However the injury prone big man, who missed the first
half of the season because of his troubled right knee once again, sent shivers into the Lakers’ camp, a fortnight before the regular season ends.
Andrew Bynum’s much feared right knee has been injured again. The player suffered from a hyper extended right knee in the second quarter of the Lakers versus San
Antonio Spurs game. Defending a Spurs’ move, Bynum inadvertently stepped on San Antonio’s DeJuan Blair’s foot, tumbling down on the floor immediately. He seemed to be immobile for a few moments as the rest of the game gathered around him.  A little while later,
Bynum stood up and walked without any support, heading into the locker room. He did not return afterwards.
The injury comes as a big blow to the Lakers. The regular season is almost finished and with their eye on third straight NBA title, the Lakers need their big man
dearly as they look to take on the big boys of NBA. The player will have an MRI on Wednesday and will the season finale against Sacramento Kings.
Bynum who plays at the centre position for Los Angeles Lakers had undergone a surgery on the same knee after the last season ended. The seven foot player used to
protect the operated knee with a heavy brace but considering the disruption it caused, Bynum had decided to take it off.
Coach Phil Jackson and the rest of the team was very concerned about the injury and gave clear indication that player might miss a few games. "There's always concern.
We've seen him go down a couple of times that have been debilitating, so there's a concern. It was kind of a freaky play, but they usually are, and that's what basketball is."
Bynum has been a key player in the Lakers defense over the year and the Lakers rely heavily on him. Teammate and shooting guard Kobe Bryant also said that Bynum is
“Lakers’ most significant defensive player”. His absence in the 2008’s NBA finals was one of the key factors, which led to Lakers defeat at hands of the Boston Celtics.
Bynum’s capability to keep the ball moving ahead is one of his major forte’s and  allows the Lakers to use the court depth more effectively. Derrick Fisher was shocked
at Bynum’s latest injury “It was tough to see. He's so important to what we do, so to even think for a second that he might be out, the impact that would have on him after all of his work, it's tough to deal with in the moment."
