Los Angeles Lakers Derek Fisher plans a dinner with the new head coach Mike Brown: NBA Update
In 2008 and 2009, the Los Angeles Lakers won back to back NBA titles and were running for the three peat this year, but the two times defending champions chocked in the second round of the 2011 playoffs, as the Dallas Mavericks
routed them 4-0.
The loss didn't just ended L.A's successful run, but also ended Hall of Famer coach Phil Jackson's career on bad note. The Lakers are now looking forward to the next season with their new head coach Mike Brown in order to get the
championship rings back in L.A.
The co-captain of the team Derek Fisher arrived late in the night on Wednesday at Los Angles, after completing hectic meetings on new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The veteran point guard was so anxious about the future of his team that the first thing he did the very next day, was to confirm Brown’s availability for a dinner meeting.
Both Brown and Fisher understand the importance of this meeting and believe that this was the need of the hour to discuss the current issues prevailing in the team and reasons behind the Lakers’ defeat in the Conference Semi-Finals.
Besides the discussion on concerning issues this will be a good opportunity for Brown to through in his new ideas regarding the offensive and defensive play of the Lakers.
After the hiring of Brown on May 25, Fisher was among the few players of his side, who publically admired Mike’s selection.
Fisher made a comment on a social networking website that, "A lot of really great coaches were being considered for the job. B Shaw [Brian Shaw] was at the top of the list! He'll be amazing and wherever he goes is lucky to have
him. Will miss Phil but excited to start a new chapter under Mike Brown. Looking forward to a different style and energy!!"
Fisher had many conversations with Brown on the phone, but this is going to be the first time when they are going to meet face to face since Mike’s selection. As earlier, Fisher had a hectic schedule of discussions and meetings
for the Players Association, where they were trying to settle the terms of the new CBA with the owners, before the expiry of old one.
Fisher signed the contract with L.A last year and had a poor first season with them. He scored with an average of 6.8 points per game, provided 2.7 assists in each game while his shooting from the floor was also not impressive
38.9 percent. Brown might also address Fisher’s poor performance during their dinner meeting in order to put him in the right direction.
On the other hand Fisher’s team-mate and co-captain of the Lakers Kobe Bryant is still mum on Brown’s hiring and at the announcement of his new plan to help fight childhood homelessness, when Kobe was asked to comment on Brown’s
selection.
Bryant replied, "Right now is not the time nor the place. We're here to focus on bigger issues, greater issues, and that's these kids that are here at the back. It's not fair to them. When the time comes, I will address that, but
right now is not that time."
