Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant puts his body on the line, refuses MRI test: NBA Update
The Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant has refused the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan on his left sprained ankle. Bryant turned down the Lakers’ idea of further examination on his injured ankle. The Lakers’ front office is still determined to convince Bryant for further check-up through X-ray or an MRI scan.
These two tests will certainly help the Lakers’ management to understand the current condition of Bryant’s ankle.
The Lakers’ Head Coach, Phil Jackson, also spoke to the media regarding Bryant’s refusal for further examination. Jackson said, “Right now, he's not, we’re trying to convince him that it might be a good idea.”
Though Bryant received an extensive handling and care from his team-doctors including icing, electro-stimulation and massage on his ankle, but when some reporters asked the Los Angeles’ Head Coach, Jackson, as what the Lakers’ medical staff and other doctors are saying about Bryant’s injury, he simply said, “He won't let them deal with it.”
Kobe Bryant is very cautious about his health and especially on his injuries. His injuries' history tells us how often he seeks private medical consultation, instead conferring with the Lakers’ medical staff. Last summer, he was also operated upon his right knee and that too was a privately arranged surgery.
Bryant’s left ankle was rolled in the National Basketball Association (NBA) first rounds’ play-off Game 4 against the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday night. His injury took place in the fourth quarter when he was defending the Hornets’ guard Willie Green, rolled over his ankle and could not balance himself as his entire body weight was transferred on his ankle.
Bryant also stated to the media about his sprained ankle, “It's sore, it just rolled over. It's been weeks since I hurt it last and when it happens, when you roll your ankle once, it's easy to go and it just went. I'm concerned, as I am about any injury, but I've played through so many of them it kind of becomes old hat for me. It's more my foot, It's not really my ankle. It's my foot ... I don't really hurt that too often, so, it's a little different for me.”
Despite of Bryant’s critical sore ankle, is he still very desperate to play for his team. The best-of-seven series has tied now at 2-2 and the next important encounter is on Tuesday at Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Bryant mentioned his aspirations to play this pivotal game for his team when he said, “I should play, and it’s going to take a lot to stop me from playing.”
This year in March, Kobe Bryant also twisted his ankle against the Dallas Mavericks which he admitted the 'scariest' injury he has suffered in his 15-year NBA career.
