Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic working on a trade deal: Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard-NBA Report
Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers are working on a possible solution to deal with Dwight Howard question. According to Yahoo! Sports NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Lakers are willing to offer their all-star forward Andrew Bynum
for Dwight.
“As Orlando works to unload Dwight Howard, Magic focusing on Lakers' Andrew Bynum as top target.”
However Bynum alone will not suffice and Lakers will have to throw in some additional perks, they would have to send additional draft picks and even more. Adrian added.
“What’s more, Bynum wouldn’t nearly be enough to satisfy Hennigan’s desires for a return on Howard. The Lakers would need to send draft picks and absorb long-term money off the Magic’s payroll, sources said."
To make the deal more enticing there is a possibility that Lakers will add Metta World Peace to the package as he amongst all the players is notoriously famous for his aggression and there are quiet few who would like to rope him
in.
Howard has clearly stated that he doesn’t want to be with Magic anymore and according to Wojnarowksi he has only one franchise on his wish list, Brooklyn Nets.
"There’s only one team on my list and if I don’t get traded there, I'll play the season out and explore my free agency after that." The one team on his list is the Nets.”
Keeping Howard aforementioned statement and his previous track record in mind, it will be difficult for any franchise to proceed towards a trade of such magnitude.
Lakers will require a guarantee form Howard that he will not walk away after one season. In a retrospect this is an ideal deal for both teams, Howard and Bynum both are the finest centers in contemporary world of NBA.
Despite all the drama (trade saga) Dwight managed to average 20.6 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks last season and was the only reason Magic penetrated deep into the playoffs. If he lands with LAL than paired with Kobe Bryant,
Lakers will have the most feared offense.
On the other hand Magic are craving for a possible solution for Dwight’s dilemma, it has already claimed the jobs of their previous coach and GM. Now Orlando’s new GM Rob Hennigan has the perfect opportunity for trading one center
for an equally gifted Bynum.
He averaged 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in the last season. He is young and his game will evolve over the years.
The deal can only be finalized when Bynum agrees to extend his contract with LAL. His current contract will mature after the 2012-13 season.
