Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings rivalry set to take a new turn
As we all know that there is an intense rivalry raging between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings. Even the fans of both the teams abide by this rivalry.
Their rivalry started only in 2000 and yet it has already had its affect on both the matches played earlier. The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings will come face to face with each other once again to tempt this rivalry further on Sunday at Staples
Center, Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Lakers had defeated the Sacramento Kings when they last played against each other on Nov 03, 2010 112-100. The game was highlighted by a fabulous performance given by Kobe Bryant.
Kobe Bryant made his first triple double of the season that made it possible for the Lakers to take a lead over the Kings. Bryant scored 30 points, 12 rebounds and grabbed 10 assists skillfully. These were his season high points in all the given categories.
Matt Barnes said something about the game, (he once played for the rival team, Kings), “I'd probably say Sacramento since they haven't won too much. You know Los Angeles has won a few rings since this rivalry started. So I'd say Sacramento takes it more
seriously”.
The Lakers get a harsh blow by the Nuggets
The Los Angeles Lakers were the only unbeaten team this season until they were defeated by the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday 118-112. The Nuggets despite their short size defeated the giants like Pau Gasol and Carmello Anthony that stunned everybody. Pau Gasol
scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds and gave two assists to the Lakers in that game.
The game was tied at 105 and it turned its direction in favor of the Nuggets after that. J.R. Smith came forward and hit a three pointer that clinched it for the Nuggets 11-0. After that the Lakers missed the next four shots. Carmello Anthony hit two jumpers
for the Nuggets and extended their lead by seven.
Sacramento Kings against Phoenix Suns
The Sacramento Kings also lost their last match that they had played against the Phoenix Suns on Nov 13, 2010. Carl Landry and Tyreke Evans scored 20 and 18 points for the Kings respectively.
The game took a turning point after the Kings had taken their lead to 77-75. The Sacramento Kings had gone only as far as 30-28 in the beginning of the second quarter. The Suns got control of the game after Steve Nash made an open 3 pointer with 8:14 remaining
and that sparked a 12-4 run for the Suns.
Quotable
"We were the victim of a Hall of Fame player having a Hall of Fame night", the Sacramento Kings coach Paul Westphal said about Steve Nash.
Carl Landry scored 20 points whereas Tyreke Evans scored 18 points for the Kings. The Lakers were cool in their previous game despite their loss to the Nuggets. Kobe Bryant scored 34 points, Shannon Brown scored 19 and Ron Artest had scored 18. They had
grabbed 13 rebounds, 18 offensive rebounds and given 10 turnovers. They took 11 fast break points which were more than the Nuggets. They also took the biggest lead at 14 and made as many as 46 points in the paint.
The good thing about Lakers is that they have players like Bryant, who take the load over their shoulders and take possession of the game whenever it gets hard. Pau Gasol is another key player, who the Lakers can rely on in hard and tough times. He has always
been there to take the team through every thick and thin that they face. At the other side of the box the Kings also have players like Evans and Landry, who are as tough as their rivals.
Let’s wish both the teams best of luck and watch the match on Sunday to see who steals the win this time.
