Los Angeles Lakers big Pau Gasol not fazed by poor post season – NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers super star Pau Gasol is confident in his ability and is not worried about the coming season. The Lakers forward, who did not perform up to expectations last season, has said that his struggles are behind him
already.
"More than fine," Gasol said, about his state of mind.
The two-time NBA World Championship winner did not cover himself in glory during the recent NBA playoffs. He struggled against both the New Orleans Hornets and the Dallas Mavericks, averaging just 13.1 points on 42 percent shooting
in 10 postseason games.
More was expected from Gasol, but the player’s poor form even incited jeers from the Lakers fan base, who became upset over his dismal effort. Gasol took a lot of flak for the post season display throughout the summer as well,
and he has now taken a swipe at his detractors.
"Thanks for the trust. Thanks for the trust. That's as much as I can say. I can't pay attention to any negativity.”
Pau said he was a fighter and will definitely bounce back. He reasoned that he had seen a lot of ups and downs in life and wasn’t fazed by the challenge ahead. Indeed, the buoyant Lakers man was looking forward to it.
“That's just not me, that's not who I am, that's not what I've been in my career, that's not the person that I am. If you know me at all, then-- Let's just wait and see," he told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "Let's just wait and see. That's
why life is so exciting. Because it puts things in place quickly. I look forward to doing that."
It will take something special from Gasol to bring back the fans, who turned on him last season. But, he is a player that can be very special indeed. The former Memphis Grizzlies man has been a hit since his arrival in Los Angeles.
The Lakers, who had previously languished in mediocrity, went straight to the NBA Finals in just Pau’s first season. They then went on to win 2 consecutive NBA World Championships, Gasol playing a vital role in both triumphs.
Things went wrong for him last season when his silky touch seemed to desert him as he struggled to cope with the physical approach of other teams in the playoffs.
The player has though had plenty of time to regroup thanks to the NBA lockout. He also went to the EuroBasket tournament in Lithuania with the Spanish National Basketball team. Gasol was tremendous throughout the event and helped
his side retain their European crown.
That victory seems to have restored the forwards confidence, which can only be a good thing for the Lakers.
