Mike Brown makes three additions to his coaching staff as the Los Angeles Lakers gear up for the coming season…..
On Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers management made the official announcement about the hiring of Eddie Jordan, Steve Clifford and Bernie Bickerstaff as assistant coaches.
With new additions come new expectations. And none have more responsibility on their shoulders than Jordan, a former Lakers player himself who was present with the team during the 1982 championship team. He is expected to bring
in the famous Princeton offence. The Lakers with the new additions made during the summer can benefit highly from this system as it would mainly revolve around their big men – Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol.
Apart from a being a former NBA player, Jordan also has a fair experience of coaching in the NBA. He was the head coach with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2009-2010 season but was fired after spending only one year. Even though
his time in Philadelphia was not very good, Jordan’s previous coaching tenure with the Washington Wizards had been very successful as he led them to their best winning total in the past 25 years and playoff basketball for the first time since the 1997 season.
Prior to his stint in Washington, Jordan also served as an assistant coach with the New Jersey Nets and was present courtside when they made it to the NBA Finals in back to back seasons at the turn of the century. Jordan’s other
coaching experiences have come with the Sacramento Kings.
Clifford also has a very important role to play with the Lakers in the coming season. He has arrived from Orlando Magic and has ample experience of working with Howard. Apart from spending time in Orlando, Clifford’s other coaching
experiences have come with the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets, where he served as an assistant coach.
The third addition to Mike Brown’s coaching staff; Bickerstaff comes over from the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent the past two seasons. Bickerstaff’s coaching career began with the Washington Bullets in 1973 and his win
loss record of 414-512 is ranked 33 in the all time coaching lists.
These additions have now capped a summer of great acquisitions for the Hollywood franchise and now the big question is whether this super team can clinch a championship in its very first season together.
