Los Angeles Lakers demolish Minnesota Timberwolves 116-94 at home: NBA Recap
Minnesota Timberwolves entered the Staples Centre on Thursday night hoping to end a 20 game drought against the Los Angeles Lakers but Kobe Bryant took control of the game to guide Lakers to a comfortable 116-94 victory. The Wolves
were without their star man Kevin Love and suffered even more damage to their already depleted squad when Nikola Pekovic returned to the locker room midway in the first half and did not return.
Lakers were amazing from behind the arc. They shot 16 of 32 from distance, just one bucket shy of their franchise record set earlier this season. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 33 points and 5 rebounds. Dwight Howard posted a
double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Antawn Jamison came off the bench to add 17 points and grab 8 rebounds.
"We've had enough time together where we've turned a corner and we're making improvement instead of continually taking steps back," said Nash, who had 10 points and seven assists. "I think that improvement has been a long time
coming, but it's only the beginning. We really need to continue to improve."
Kobe made his intentions clear after the game, he said
"I'm just trying to get in the playoffs. I play for one thing and one thing only and that's winning championships."
Los Angeles Lakers were in driving seat right from the word go. They went in front early in the first quarter and then maintained their advantage till the end of the period to head into the second quarter with a 28-22 lead.
Wolves tried to make plays early in the second period but the Lakers shut them down in their tracks and kept scoring buckets to stay in front. They outscored the Wolves 29-25 in the second period to solidify their position at the
half time mark.
The second half had a similar story. Lakers scored 34 points in the third period to set up a huge fourth quarter lead for them. It was just icing on the cake for the Lakers in the final quarter as they cruised to the win in the
end.
