Los Angeles Lakers get Dwight Howard in a blockbuster four team trade – NBA Report
According to latest reports, the Dwight Howard saga which gripped the NBA for over a year has come to an end as the Los Angeles Lakers have materialized a deal that would bring the big man over from Orlando Magic.
The semantics off the trade involves four teams including Orlando Magic, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets, and 8 different players will be representing new teams in the coming season. The official announcement of the
deal is yet to come however a source close to the matter has been able to confirm to the Associated Press that the deal is taking place.
As part of the trade, the Lakers would be sending over Andrew Bynum to the Sixers, who would also receive Jason Richardson from Orlando. In return, the Sixers will send their star guard Andre Iguodala to the Nuggets.
In what many believe is a raw deal, the Magic will get Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington from Denver and Nikola Vucevic and Moe Harkless from Sixers. At the same time, the Magic will also be receiving protected rights for future
lottery picks from all three other teams involved in the trade.
Although Howard wanted to be a part of the Brooklyn Nets this off season, given the circumstances the Lakers are the best option for the big man, who wants to be a part of the championship culture.
The move puts the Lakers in very strong contention for the coming season. LAL agreed to a sign and trade deal with the Phoenix Suns for Steve Nash earlier in the summer and now with Howard coming in to play alongside Pau Gasol
and Kobe Bryant – the tinsel town giants have once again become the alpha team in the league. The Lakers could largely benefit from the double-double career average that Howard holds in his career. He was in top form last season as well, averaging 20.6 points
and 14.5 rebounds, before being ruled out with back injury.
Howard becomes the second Orlando big man, who after cementing themselves individually in the NBA at Orlando, have gone on to join the Lakers, the first being Shaquille O’Neal. The Lakers would hope that the trade is as successful
as the previous one as Shaq’s tenure brought home three NBA Championships.
