Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson takes aim at LeBron James – NBA Update
LeBron James has become the butt of many a joke over the last year or so.
Everything from his “Decision” to his receding hairline has been targeted by people from all over the NBA community. Now, Magic Johnson has added his name to the list of people, having a laugh at James’s expense.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend had a crack at James poor NBA World Championship record recently.
"There's always going to be guys who win championships in the NBA, except LeBron," Johnson said at a recent appearance in Albany, N.Y., drawing lots of laughter. The legendary playmaker won 5 NBA World Championships himself as
a player and believes, like many others, that it is NBA World Championships that really prove the pedigree of super star players.
The championship rings are the reason; he rates fellow Laker Kobe Bryant much higher than James. There are those in the basketball world, who now consider James, on the basis of talent and ability, as superior to the Los Angeles
shooting guard.
Johnson though is an old fashioned bloke and his argument is simple.
"Don't be mad. Everybody asks me who is better between Kobe or LeBron. I'm like, are you kidding me? Kobe has five championships and LeBron has zero."
Although Johnson meant only to have a light hearted laugh, these comments are sure to sting LeBron. The Miami Heat forward has become increasingly frustrated over the years at failing to garner NBA Championship rings.
He tried and failed while with the Cleveland Cavaliers, despite reaching the NBA Finals, so he jumped ship and came over to Miami. With Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh by his side, surely it was going to be LeBron’s year.
Everything seemed to be following the script as James and Miami stormed into the NBA Finals. But, waiting for them there were the Dallas Mavericks and a man known as Dirk Nowitzki. The German sharp shooter and his teammates had
a destiny of their own to fulfil in the Finals and it was them, instead of LeBron and his Miami Heat, who walked away as NBA World Champions.
Therefore one can understand if comments like Johnson’s would get under LeBron’s skin, but Magic, always the charmer, knew how to make things right. Determined not to make James angry, the former Lakers point guard made sure he
lavished some high praise on the two-time MVP, and made it clear that he was just having a bit of fun.
"I love you though, man," said Johnson, apparently addressing LeBron. "I know you'll be better in the fourth quarter next year. I'm not hating on LeBron. He's a triple-double threat every single game, and he's going to get better."
