Los Angeles Lakers needs veterans to excel in the next NBA season? NBA Feature (Part-2)
Lamar Odom: Consistency
The decision of playing Los Angeles veteran combo forward Lamar Odom as a starter or sixth man of the team will be taken by the team’s new head coach Mike Brown and it will become apparent with the beginning of the next season.
However, one thing is certain that the 31-year-old Odom will only be stressing to become a consistent offensive threat for the Lakers.
Following the year Lamar Odom posted his career best 10.6 rebounds per game during the 2007-2008 season, Lamar’s offensive game received a major setback as he finished the next two seasons with the lowest career average in points.
Odom regained his scoring strength in the last season and scored with an average of 14.4 points per game. Los Angeles Lakers All-Star Odom powered the team dominantly from down the stretch and as a result the veteran forward was
named as the NBA sixth man of the Year this year.
Lamar has been aggressive in attacking the rim and drawing fouls from the opposition throughout the last season and his game-play indicates his willingness to support the team from any position. NBA fans and Lakers can expect Odom
to kept soaring and scoring and this is the only way he can furnish his resume with an NBA championship title.
Lamar Odom: More minutes on the court
After 2005-2006 season in which Lamar Odom played for more than 40 minutes per game on the court, the playing minutes of the Lakers’ superstar started to diminish with each passing season. However, after receiving the honour of
the Sixth Man of the Year in the last season, Lamar Odom’s confidence would have increased greatly and he will be determined to play for more minutes on the court to help Los Angeles Lakers achieve their goal.
This is exactly what the franchise needs to do, give Lamar maximum time on the court which will help the team in two ways. Firstly, Odom will have the opportunity to continue to prove his brilliance and take his game to the next
level. Secondly, a lot of pressure will be alleviated from the shoulders of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant as he will be able to rest his aging body during the games to save his best for the last.
Lamar is an aggressive player and it can be expected that the team’s toughness won’t decrease by giving Odom more minutes on the court.
Andrew Bynum: Breakout Healthier
One of the major problems Los Angeles Lakers talented centre Andrew Bynum has been facing since the start of his NBA career is not staying fit and healthy which has become very frustrating for Bynum and his fans, who expects him
to play in every game.
However considering that the NBA lockout is about to enter in its fifth month and no games or official work out sessions has taken place since June, the 24-year-old Andrew Bynum is having more time to rest his knee injury and it
can be expected that Los Angeles Lakers big man Bynum will bounce back healthier in the next season when the league gets back to business. Healthy Andrew means 3-4 more points and 2-3 more rebounds per game which will ultimately help the team.
