Los Angeles Lakers’ poor form in the Play-offs could lead to a bigger disaster
For some teams winning is everything - no compromises attached. The two times defending champions and the epicentre of one of the most illustrious legacies in the game, Los Angeles Lakers, are certainly one of those teams.
When the Lakers started the regular season, many questions were raised about the depth and form of their roster and whether they will be able to handle the likes of the newly primed Miami Heat, the big boys Boston Celtics and the sizzling San Antonio Spurs. However, what nobody anticipated at that point was that Lakers will even fail to handle a team of Dallas Mavericks’ calibre.
However, the recent steady failures in two games against the Dallas Mavericks have posed some serious question on their world class roster. Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and especially Derek Fisher have shown much concern over the average performance by the Lakers. The most vocal of them though has been Derrick Fisher.
Fisher has been vociferously urging his team mates to pick up their game if they want to achieve their dream of a three-peat. The Lakers’ guard cautioned his teammates that if they did not get themselves up soon, not only their dreams but the dreams of millions of fans all around the world will be shattered.
Fisher has spent more than eleven seasons with the Lakers and knows the mentality of the Lakers top management. After game-2, Fisher gathered all his team-mates in a room and told them that if the Lakers fail to win this year’s NBA championship, there might be consequences.
Fisher also came out in the media and stated. “We discussed that buttons will be pushed. That's the reality, and its business with this team. You have to understand it and appreciate it for what it is. I think guys understand it. If you want to stay on this bus and take this ride and play for the Lakers and everything that this brings to you, and then do everything humanly possible to push through, Management is still going to make decisions that they feel like are best. But the best way to impact that decision is to win.”
Although it is still unknown what repercussion will follow if the Lakers lose the playoff series, the crowd at the Staples Centre has already made it clear that they are not impressed. The Lakers were booed off the court, when they lost the game-2 on Wednesday.
Currently the Los Angeles Lakers are trailing the Dallas Mavericks 0-2 in the Western Conference semi-finals. The best-of-seven second round series will certainly determine the fate of the Lakers in future ahead. The Lakers’ next game is on Friday against the Mavericks at American Airlines Centre, in Dallas, Texas.
