Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant ready to loan money to players if lockout continues: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) locked its players over labour turbulence with the Players Union on 1st July and still no decision has been made to resolve this issue. The NBA owners want to include some new
clauses in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) but the players are not willing to accept.
There are two major clauses that are the real root cause for disagreement between the players association and NBA owners.
The first one is hard salary-cap and the other one is less revenue share from the NBA’s entire income. Since the lockout has struck in the league, the league owners and the players union have been negotiating with each-other but
still no positive result has came out in public. As long as the lockout prevails in the league, all the league’s players will suffer from both financially and emotionally. However, the recent comments of Billy Hunter will relieve some financial pressure from
the players.
The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) executive director Billy Hunter is encouraging the league’s big earning players to help-out their other NBA teammates. In an interview, he talked about Los Angeles Lakers Kobe
Bryant’s potential role play during the work stoppage in the league.
He said, “They've been deeply involved in the meetings we've had. I know Kobe is intimately involved in interfacing with colleagues and sharing in a pool of revenue to help the others get through this. Kobe has volunteered to do
that in the event others need, he and others are prepared to loan money if necessary.”
Billy Hunter further said and admitted the fact of losing an entire NBA season. He briefly explained and suggested if some player earns handsome amount of money, he should be considering his other league’s teammates who will face
lots of troubles because of the prolonged lockout.
Hunter also said about the ongoing progression in the talks with the NBA owners and showed full confidence on his union as they will never let anyone down. He said “We spent three years preparing these guys for this; I'm convinced
they'll hang in there, that they'll stay the course for the year if that's what it takes.”
Regarding his comments about Kobe and other players to help-out their league’s teammates financially, were highly acknowledged in the media. No doubt there are many NBA players, who have earned huge fortunes and can easily spend
their rest of the lives without playing further, but helping-out their league mates will show the great intimacy among them. According to facts, Kobe Bryant is the highest paid professional basketball player in the NBA. He has also recently signed an extension
in his contract for $83.5 million for next three years with the Lakers.
