Los Angeles Sparks snap Indiana Fever’s three-game winning streak; Win 75-70 – WNBA Recap
On Thursday night at the Staples Center, Ebony Hoffman came off the bench with a game high 21 points as Los Angeles Sparks took down the Eastern Conference- leading Indiana Fever, 75-70. The Sparks bounced back from their close
defeat to Atlanta Dream in the previous game and in doing so, they also snapped three-game winning streak of Indiana.
Hoffman also grabbed seven rebounds and ended with 7 for 11shooting from the field. Candace Parker added 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for Sparks, who have won four of their previous 10 games.
Three Indiana players scored in double figures on the night. Erin Phillips led Fever with 16 points, five rebounds, five assist and two steals. Tamika Catchings also added 16 points on 6 for 15 shooting from the floor while Tangela
Smith had 14 points, a game-high nine rebounds and five assists for Fever, who have lost just two of their previous 10 games.
Los Angeles shot 44.4 percent (24 for 54) from the field and limited the visiting team to just 39.4 percent (26 for 66). The Sparks however committed 12 turnovers, including 10 of them in the first half, while Indiana committed
just nine.
Fever opened the first quarter on a 7-0 run and stretched their lead to 10 points, 19-9, with 02:48 to go in the opening period. Hoffman hit two jumpers in row and trimmed Indiana’s lead to six-points, 19-13, but Davenport drove
to the rim to make it 21-13. Hoffman however ended the frame on a high for Sparks and hit a shot from downtown to make it a five-point contest, 21-16.
Sparks hit the ground running in the second quarter and limited Fever to just nine points, taking a 31-30 lead at halftime.  Both teams scored 24 points each in the third quarter and Los Angeles maintained their one-point lead,
55-54, at the end of the quarter.
Sparks scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and widened their lead to 60-54. Fever responded though and went on a 12-2 run to go ahead by 66-62 with 04:57 left in the game. Los Angeles responded with eight consecutive
points to take a 70-66 advantage and never trailed for rest of the period.
