Los Angeles set to celebrate Stanley Cup Finals with Kings one win away -NHL Playoffs Update
There was no telling when Los Angeles would become known as a hockey city after Wayne Gretzky left the city but now, as the Kings are just one game away from reaching the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals, fans are thrilled at the idea
of getting a chance to celebrate once again.
Waiting two days in order to see Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals between Kings and Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles fans are finding it tough to pass the time with the next contest and probably the last being on Sunday, May 20.
The STAPLES Center in Los Angeles is a wild place to be at the moment since all their teams in the NHL and National Basketball Association (NBA), Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Clippers are hosting playoff games in between.
"It's going to be unprecedented for any arena anywhere," Staples Center senior vice president and general manager, Lee Zeidman, said. "No one will ever duplicate it except for us because we're the only arena with an NHL team and two NBA teams."
It has been over 19 years since Kings’ fans saw their team take it to the Stanley Cup finals with Wayne Gretzky leading the way and now, history is repeating itself but in a better way as the 2012 Kings are set to make history as the best ever run for the
championship.
Having lost just one game up until now against Vancouver Canucks in the quarterfinals, Los Angeles Kings have come a long way from eliminating St. Louis Blues in all four games and nearly on the verge of repeating with Phoenix Coyotes down 3-0.
A number of surprise players have stepped up and taken over the scene. One of them is Dwight King, who has amazingly been the leading player for Kings. He scored four goals in the first three matchups against Phoenix, including the Game 3 winning shot.
"It was great to eliminate their momentum," King said. "That was a huge play by Brown to set up Kopitar and get us back on track."
Eliminating Phoenix Coyotes in Game 4 will definitely have Los Angeles Kings ready to take the Stanley Cup back home for the first time since 1993, which has everyone extremely excited.
