Los Gatos and Bellarmine to meet in Central Coast Section Division I tournament final
The Central Coast Section Division I tournament is underway and the two teams that would compete in the finals today are the Los Gatos and the Bellarmine boys volleyball team.
Los Gatos has been having an interesting ride until now in the tournament. It has experienced some moments of struggle while coming up to the finals. Los Gatos was on the brink of losing the quarterfinals but they managed to pull off a 3-2 victory at the
last minute.
The semi-final of the tournament was played at Independence High. The team that Los Gatos was competing against was New Mountain. The match played in San Jose was something that Los Gatos needed to give themselves a boost of confidence for the final. By
achieving a three set back to back victory over Mountain View, Los Gatos were able to do just that and were all set to enter the court on the semi final day full of confidence.
The final of the tournament is going to be played in Independence High as well. The competition between the two competing teams is going to be tough. Bellarmine is an exacting opponent to reckon with. They have numerous credits under their belt.
Bellarmine is ranked as the top seed in the tournament. They also have a formidable record of bagging the CSS championship an impressive number of 10 times. In contrast to this, Los Gatos has had the honour of being the CSS champions a total of three times.
Los Gatos is going to be entering the finals with an impressive record. The total number of times that they have been able to tally a win in this season so far amount to be 35. These victories have been accomplished at the cost of keeping their number of
losses commendably low at three. This record also comes with a 14 match-winning streak that Los Gatos is currently riding upon. Only time will tell whether they will be able to extend this streak to 15 today or not.
As compared to the performance statistics of Los Gatos, Bellarmine supports as record which is a notch paler. The number of times that Bellarmine has been able to emerge as victors from a match equal to be 35. These wins have been bagged after having undergone
losses that tally at a figure of eight.
Coach Zeph Zinsman of the Los Gatos made the following comments regarding the key quarterfinal game that his team played against Homestead, “Our passing game was much improved in the last two sets with our outside hitters and our libero Max Burt. Homestead
played extremely well. They played very hard defense against us, but Weddell really carried us in games four and five.”
