Los Gatos boys volleyball team defeats Mountain View to win Santa Clara Valley Athletic championship
Competitive volleyball is no longer restricted to the university level but several high school teams also display such skill and class that the professional teams can learn a thing or two from them.
Like at the higher level, school teams also feature both girls and boys volleyball teams that undergo vigorous training in order to perfect their game. These teams are given the chance to take part in various tournaments that are held at both the national
and local level. Most of these tournaments have high appeal for the participating teams and often the talent hunters that frequent these matches notice the talented players.
One such team that plays volleyball with considerable prowess is the Los Gatos boys volleyball team. An exciting match took place between Los Gatos as well as the Mountain View team. The match in which both the teams competed against each other was part
of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. It was a match which would determine the champion of the De Anza Division.
By the time that the contest ended, the Wildcats were the ones that were celebrating their newly earned title of champions by giving loud hoots of joy and the Mountain View team was heading back to the locker room with heads hung low. The thrilling victory
was achieved when the Wildcats defeated Mountain View by 3-1 at the following final set scores, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.
Interestingly, the Wildcats lost the first set of the match to Mountain View. The Gatos could not perform to the best of their abilities in the first set of the game and let Mountain View dominate them easily.
Once Mountain View had the lead for themselves in the first set of the game, they kept extending their advantage in order to put pressure on Los Gatos. The Wildcats could not step up their game to challenge Mountain View significantly. As a result, the Gatos
lost the first set of the game to Mountain View by 20-25.
Losing the initial set of the game sent a much needed wakeup call to Los Gatos and they were successful in responding positively. The Wildcats rallied together and increased the intensity of their attack as well as the defence. As a result, Mountain View
was hard put to cater to the increased level of performance of the Wildcats. The Gatos took the lead early on and did not have a hard time staying in control of the game until they had sealed the deal at 25-17.
The momentum built by winning the first set of the game took the Wildcats to win the third set pretty smoothly at 25-19. With a two set deficit, Mountain View tried to take the fourth set in order to bring the game to a fifth one but the failed to do so
as the Wildcats seized the fourth one at 25-22.
The win has enabled the Wildcats to enter the CCS Division I tourney.
