  1. Regardless of your purchase, make sure to have a written gemological appraisal of the diamond.  Failing that guarantee, you may want to take your business elsewhere to a large well-established jewelry store.  Again, the jewelry district is composed of many small mom and pop businesses that are not that sophisticated in dealing with customers who are seeking valued/appraised merchandise and want has valid documentations as to its value.

    Good luck!

  2. I personally do not know what is a legit store.  However, I would suggest that you do your research as how to check for defects and quality in a diamond.

Most people want "eye-clean", which you can check out yourself just by looking at it. Look for a yellow tint, any black specks, or any white inclusions that look like cracks. You can always get an appraisal done, but would be difficult to do pre- purchase.

About 11 years ago, I had an ex who purchased a diamond ring from LA jewelry mart and found out the diamond had a huge flaw in it, it had a cloudy look to it.

Do your homework and be sure that the diamond is of good quality and grade.
