Question:

Lose fuel economy on Honda Civic?

My Civic is pretty new, and it's supposed to run an average of about 40 mpg. However, I seem to get the fact that I lose a lot of fuel right after I gas up. I have a pretty empty trunk every time, and I rarely turn on the A/C. My tires are properly inflated, and I rarely do jackrabbit sprints from traffic lights. What seems to be the problem? My parents usually ride with me when we want to carpool every now and then. Can carrying additional passengers affect my fuel economy also? I mean, my car IS designed to carry 5 passengers; especially since it's a 4-door.

  1. go on fueleconomy.gov and it will tell you what you are really suppose to get mpg. the only new hondas that avg. 40 mpgs is the hybrid. also make sure your air filter is clean.

  2. Having a vehicle loaded down definately affects gas mileage..I guess the first step would be to actually calculate your mileage...next time you fill up note the miles and gallons and calulate your actual to see how far it is off...
