Question:

Lose weight without changing my eating habits?

I'm a 15 year old male, weight 139 and am about 5 foot 4. My BMI is 23.9. (Normal weight is 18.5-24.9, and I'd like to get my BMI down to at least 21.x. How can I do this? I really want to lose some weight but I'm not really willing to change my eating habits. They aren't really that bad, I don't eat an ungodly amount of food, nor do I eat foods that are really fattening, But I do eat fast food around 3 times a week, because I don't always have time for a sit down meal. I do drink around 4 cans of pop a day.

I volunteer at the local dog shelter walking dogs about 3 times a week, walking dogs for about 1 and a half hours. I'm not into sports, so they're out of the question. (I do like to swim though) If I ran with the dogs instead of walking, would this help much? What else can I do to lose at least 3 pounds a month? (Without changing my eating habits)

  1. Food is the biggest issue. Lots of people have the misunderstanding that if you exercise, you can eat whatever you want. It is actually quite the contrary. Pop will definately not make you any skinnier. In fact, sugary beverages are one of the leading causes of weight gain. And fast food 3 times a week isn't going to make you skinnier either. Sorry, but if you REALLY wanted to loose weight, you would be detirmined enough to just change your eating habits. Otherwise, I would say it's really not that important for you.  


  2. Well, I have to agree with everyone else. If you want to lose weight get rid of the sugar and the fast food. You can go to McDonald's and get a salad, or the grilled chicken. Lay off the fries. If you want to lose weight this is how you do it. And, you have to get more exercise than walking a dog 3 x a week. Walk every day for at least a half hour at a good pace to start with. You have to figure out if you can commit to losing weight. If you are not into it, it won't work.

  3. Well, walking the dogs is great for you and them!  Kudos for what you are doing, your my hero for taking the time for those dogs!  You should be very proud of yourself!  

    Could you switch your colas to diet?  Or not drink so many?  You would be surprised how many calories that adds to your diet.  Also, instead of eating at McDonald's, BK, etc, try eating semi-fast food like subway, quiznos, etc.  Wendy's is great, not expensive and they have great salads, baked potatoes and stuff like that, also, I really like the "South Beach" meals in the meat aisle next to the lunch ables.  The taste great, just the right amount of food and it is super fast.  That is what my family does on the run.  Also, don't eat too many bread items, filling but doesn't last long (kind of like chinese food-lol).  Hope that helps, it works for us.

  4. ..well soda and fast food two worst things for u..especially 4 cans a day maybe have 1 or two cans a day ? have crystal light or powerade zero(0 cals) or G2 gatorade diet soda even and fast food just get chicken sandwiches baked potatoes not milkshakes not hamburgers and fries everytime swimming is the best exercise u can do!!!! u burn so much cals id say if u swam laps for 30mins of actually swimming the laps ud burn a ton of cals cuz u work all ur muscles it's the best cardio exercise that's why micheal felps ate so much from swimming 5hrs a day he could eat 12000cals and it was tough for him to keep on weight ridiculous right now i say u could do this if u add the swimming have at least 1 less can of soda pop no? ull see results
