Aussie Captain Ricky Ponting has spoken about the pain of losing the Ashes in by saying that for an Australian captain nothing is bigger than lifting the Ashes.
Four years ago Australia made mincemeat out of England when they gave them a humiliating 5-0 defeat in the Ashes. It was a sweet revenge on part of Australia after losing the 2005 Ashes series in England. Now they are faced with a similar situation, as they
again have to revive their honour by defeating England in Australia. No one else can feel this pressure more than Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting.
Ricky Ponting was the Captain of the Australian side when they lost the Ashes series in 2005 and 2009 in England. Coincidently the margin of defeat was 2-1 both the times. To lose the Ashes for the second time in England was a painful experience for Ricky
Ponting. He said that there was an empty feeling in Aussie players when they walked off the Oval ground after losing the final Test in 2009. Ponting says that he wants to make sure that Australian players don’t have to go through the same feeling again. For
a player nothing can be more painful than losing the competition which he values the most. Ricky Ponting further said that all their training and hard work has been based upon the fact that they don’t want to get themselves in the same type of situation.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in recent times has not performed well and has lost 7 consecutive matches in all forms of cricket. Apart from that, their line-up is not the same as it was in 2006 Ashes series. Their bowling is not that lethal as it used to be and their batsmen
have not performed that consistently. Australia would have to play some competitive and consistent cricket to defeat the in-form England side.
Ricky Ponting said that since the last few series, Ashes has grown bigger. He said the 2005 series revived the decreasing popularity of Test cricket. After 2005 Ashes series it was noted that cricket fans started to take more interest in Test cricket and
made it appear more happening for cricket lovers.
