Losing faith and gaining it back? Please help!?

Reference: Hebrews 6 of King James Version

I am ready to accept God. My wife used to be a Christian but lost her faith. She keeps pointing out Hebrews 6 in the Bible as proof she can't go back. She wants to but she believes she can't. I haven't read enough of the Bible yet to be able to know the answer myself.

If she was saved and she turned back, is it too late for her to ever be accepted by God again and be able to go to Heaven?

Thanks, she is not a believer of once saved always saved either...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The story of the Prodigal Son should help her understand the forgiving love of God.  The son left his father's house without regard to consequences and having no regrets.  Salvation can be given up.  But the son decided to go home.  And his father welcomed him back into his household without explaination.  As a matter of fact, the boy didn't even get his apology out of his mouth before his father was pulling him in through the gate.  Sometimes the heart can say much more than the mouth can.  And I'd guess God is waiting at the gate for your wife like the father waited for his prodigal son.

  2. The correct dividing of the word of truth, making the distinction between the Jewish Covenants and the how God is dealing with the rest of humanity, can only found in Paul the Apostle's records.  The Hebrew epistle, while containing important truths, does not pertain to the nations, other than it is meant for our instruction and understanding. There is no doctrine in it for us who are the "uncircumcision" (Galatians 2,verses 7-9). The salvation of the nations is outside the scope of the Twelve, and Paul was personally appointed for his commission by the Risen Christ from heaven. Nothing by way of revelation came to him outside of the Lord from His Heavenly throne. Only that truth which is revealed through Paul has any relevence to our disposition and position before God. It is an error to mix the two and apply to ourselves what belongs to another people for another time.

Paul goes to great lengths pursuading us that nothing can separate us from His love, not even our disowning Him in this life. He cannot deny His own Body, but He will make the necessary corrections when we stand before Him at the resurrection.  There will be losses for time ill-spent and squandered.

  3. Sorry Fireball I disagree with you on that, Salvation cannot be lost, but it can be forfeited - this is the nature of covenants in the bible.  The bible no where guarantee's someone that salvation once received cannot be turned away from or forfeited by the individual that possesses it.

If She has Forfeited Her Salvation She would have no desire to get it back, Nor concerned by it in anyway, The fact that she does is an indication that She is still being convicted By the Holy Spirit.

Receiving salvation involves man's will, and not works.  Forfeiting salvation involves man's will, and not works.   In the same way the Lord did not force His salvation on anyone, He neither forces anyone to remain in the covenant.

But I don't not wish to argue about this amoung my Fellow Christians Who adhere to the Doctrine of Eternal Security, This is an area where humility is called for as good men of God have defended both biblical truths for centuries.  I don't plan to solve the problem here, because I fully accede that both doctrines, if taken to completion using logic, appear to contradict each other at various places.  This is where the problem lies.  Logic does not put forth, create or originate truth, the scriptures do.  Logic is merely the means God gave us to sort our error.  I believe wise men will merely accede that the scripture clearly teaches both doctrines, and leave it at that.  It is foolish to defend God's sovereignty or men's free will at the expense of the other.

To sum up then, God's sovereignty regarding the WHEN and HOW of his redemptive plan for mankind is absolute, AND man's free will alter the details of precisely WHO is involved in consummating that redemptive plan. An illustration that might shed some light on this fact, would be that of a sports contest, like football. God will end the football contest exactly when He wants to, and how He wants to, AND He will use all the players to bring that about even as they individually freely choose to obey or disobey Him. Those who, in faith, obey Him will receive hope and peace during the contest and gracious rewards at the end. Those who do not believe and thereby disobey will experience hopelessness and emptiness during the contest, and will receive just punishments at the end. Yet both groups will be used by God to bring the contest to an end when and how God wants to end the contest.

  4. saved means born again...

who told her those lies? God wont take away salvation... she needs to consult a good Methodist minister....she is ok if born again and might want to try attending once in awhile again...OOO

  5. she can believe in God again if she really wants to, I'm sure he will forgive her

  6. I am not a pastor but I would like to help. First, the devil is about half truths. What it's intended to be Good News in Hebrews, our nature contradicts it. It's carnal lawlessness that pushes a person to disobey the word of God. But to answer your question, yes, she can go back confess and repent for her sins and accept the Lord Jesus as her savior. Remember, that our salvation came through Jesus on the cross for our transgression. Honor your marriage and keep going to church. God never abandons his flock. We are His children.
