Losing job tough for Mike Quade – MLB News
The former Chicago Cubs’ manager Mike Quade, while commenting on the decision of his dismissal from the team, stated that it was tough to lose the job on Wednesday, November 2. Shocking as it was, uncertainty pervaded the atmosphere until the decision was
formally announced.
However, for an individual for whom the Chicago Cubs had an inseparable connection, the dismissal was unimaginable. The Cubs performance in 2011 season, nonetheless, was far from satisfactory with the team losing 91 games and managing to win only 71 that
they played.
For him, however, Wednesday morning brought immense disappointment and bitterness when he was informed he no longer had any role to play for his team.
"You're disappointed, you're bitter, you're mad -- a million things," Quade said Wednesday by phone. "I woke up this morning, grabbed a fishing rod, had a cup of coffee and was managing the Cubs.”
Now that he is not part of the Cubs any longer, it is indeed tough for him.
Quade, however, was all praise for the new management which has taken over the Cubs. Starting from the president of operations Theo Epstein to the new general manager Jed Hoyer, Quade believes they are bright enough to get a bright group together.
Commenting on the nearly seven hour long discussion that he had with the new management on Tuesday, he stated that he enjoyed the exchange and the philosophical end that it brought in its fold.
"I enjoyed the exchange and felt good about the philosophical end of things. People being up front and having character means more to me than anything, and that was the case."
While Mike Quade may well be looking for a new team to manage, the hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs Rudy Jaramillo, bullpen coach Lester Strode and bench coach Pat Listach will have their contracts till 2012.
It remains to be seen which teams come forward and make an offer to Mike Quade, who in his career, combines experience and integrity and all the prerequisites that are important traits of a manager.
