Losing weight and toning.?

i've been overweight 30-40 lbs a big portion of my life (I'm 20) and i'm still the same way, what is a decent routine where i can lose the keg and that build's strength in my abs, what are some recommendations? (preferrably from someone who is in shape)

THE ONLY WAY TO LOOSE WEIGHT AND TONE, (WHICH IS THE SAME THING) IS TOO CONTROL YOUR DIET, EAT LESS CALORIES THAN YOU BURN EACH DAY..NO EXERCISE WILL HELP YOU LOOSE THE WEIGHT IF YOU EAT TO MANY CALORIES.   NO EXERCISE WILL HELP YOU TONE, WEIGHT LIFTING BUILDS MUSCLE, PERIOD, LIGHT OR HEAVY WEIGHTS. TO LOOSE WEIGHT AND TONE, USE A LOW CALORIE DIET AND DO CARDIO, CARDIO WILL HELP YOU BURN MORE CALORIES EACH DAY.
