Question:

Losing weight swimming?

I'm trying to lose weight, but I recently had surgery on my right ankle, so its really hard for me to do exercises that have minimum impact. So I decided to go to a club and swim. Will I get a full body workout if I swim say, an hour...3 days a week? I can only imagine it toning up your legs and arms.

  1. Swimming at any age will do wonders for your body.  If you do a pretty good workout for 3 hours a week and add a loose diet (basically just eat healthy foods like more fruit and vegetables), then you'll drop pounds every week until you have few pounds to drop anymore.  Expect to lose a lot more weight in the first month because thats the easiest to lose; if you stay with it you'll keep losing fat while gaining muscle too.

When I start a swim season, I typically lose around 10 pounds in the first week or so and about another 10 throughout the rest of the season.  This is typical for everyone else on the team too.  If you take a BMI before you start your routine, you'll see that you actually will lose a lot more fat than the scale tells you, but thats only because swimming will add a lot of muscle.

Good luck, it can be hard to stay with a swim routine but if you do, the results will definitely show.

  2. no i swim on a swim team 2 times a week nd by the second week i lost 10 lbs.... but then u start 2 get muscle too but u do loose a lot of weight

  3. It will only tone up your arms and legs if you only work your arms and legs, which is pretty hard to do! Swimming is a full body exercise, especially strokes like fly really work your core. I would recommend talking to a coach, personal trainer or even looking up some books for drills... theres a drill out there to work EVERYTHING, all you have to do is look.
