Lost/Distroyed Savings Bonds?

I've lost (ok, they probably got thrown away and burned) some savings bonds. I don't know much about them other than the purchase price or the face value of the bonds were somewhere around 225 or 250 dollars. Is there a website or phone number I can call that will help me or is that money just lost forever?

  1. Look for a website run by the gov. To find it google US Savings Bonds. The site should tell you how to recoup your money. They are definitely NOT gone, provided you can provide some details about yourself and the purchase.

    One of the advantages of these bonds is this very protection against loss by theft, fire, etc.


  2. I lost a savings bond(s) a few years back.  I went thru the Bureau of the Public Debt.  I had to fill out a form with my name, ssn, approx date of the bond, etc.  Anyway, check out this site:
