Question:

Lost INS documents matter?

I came to USA in 2001 and applied for asylum the same year. I got my final approval and was supposed to file for my green card in 2002. I had some financial hardship at that time so I did not. I am now ready to get my paper finalized and realize I am now missing my I-94 and my I-589. I moved from California to Arizona in 2006. I don't know what I should do at this time. If there is anyone who knows about INS proceedures or have has this experience, please help me. Thank You.

  1. What don't you just contact the INS and tell them your docs are missing?

  2. well, among other things, you need to let USCIS know that you've changed addresses. However, there's an electronic record of everything you'd said, and a hard file with all of the documents in it, called an A file. It should be easy to find, if you know your Alien Registration Number or A number. Even if you don't for some reason, they should still be able to retrieve all the necessary information.
