I've been living in Ireland, after leaving Scotland when I was fourteen. But I'm planning to go back very soon, the problem is, I was never sent out a National Insurance Number card as I was too young when I left. I am a british citizen.

So what happens? I'll need a National Insurance Number to work when I return. Any help is appreciated.

  1. go to job centre.  they can trace it up

  2. Contact the Inland revenue they will be able to help or the Jobcentre plus

  3. Contact your local job centre, and they will be able to either find your NI number on the data base (i have done this) or give you a new one, provided you can prove you are a British Citizen (ie passport, birth certificate etc.)

Check out the Inland Revenue website for more info: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nic/ynino.htm
