I am using the Olympus Camedia Master 4.2 software with my Olympus C-765 camera. I normally transfer images from the camera into files in my C drive under the heading C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataOLYMPUSCamedia Master 4Album. I have 16 folders in this Album and until yesterday all those folders had a number of pictures in them. Yesterday, I transferred several pictures from the camera into two of those folders. When I browsed those folders they both had over 30 images in them. I then transferred several pictures from the camera into a different section of the C drive, sending them to a file with some scanned images already in it. The largest two scan files in that folder were of 468MB and 2.0GB. After the transfer I selected Browse and Camedia Master called up that file, displaying both the scanned images and the images just transferred from the C-765 camera. I clicked on one of the scanned image thumbnails but Camedia could not display a larger image of it. After that I went back to browse images in my normally used folders, in the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataOLYMPUSCamedia Master 4Album location, and found that most of my 16 folders were now empty. The two folders that I had just transferred images into now had only four images in them. These were TIF images that had been loaded months ago. All the other images, which may all have been JPEG, were gone. All my other 12 folders with 2008 photos in them were completely empty. All of the photos in those folders may also have been JPEG. The only two folders that were not affected were a folder of photos I loaded in 2006, containing both JPEG and TIF images, and the SAMPLES folder that came with the Camedia software.Another oddity of this problem is that now, when I select My Computer and try to get in to the Camedia Album, I cannot get past C:Documents and SettingsAll Users. There is no Application Data folder displayed in the C:Documents and SettingsAll Users folder. However, if I enter the address C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data the Application Data folder does show up. This folder still has 13 folders in it, including the OLYMPUS folder. From the OLYMPUS folder I can still enter the Camedia Master 4 folder, then the Album folder, which still has the 16 photo folders in it. As I said above, all but two of these photo folders are now empty or near empty. I have tried three file recovery programs, “Restore Deleted Files v2.0.1”, “Undelete PLUS” and “FreeUndelete”. None of these programs have found any of the missing files. I’m using a 2008 Dell XPS 630I with XP Professional. I haven’t used it much yet, the 500GB C drive has only 27 GB in use, and I have not deleted much. This is the only hard drive in the computer. I’m sure there is still plenty of space that has never been used, so the lost photos should not have been written over in the last 24 hours.
