Dear Forum Members,

I certainly need help from this forum. My Sister (on L1B) had lost the passport & I-94 the very next day whe she got down in Seattle USA. She does not even have the copy of I-94. She has copy of passport & other docs. She has not even applied for SSN.

I sincerely request each one of you, to provide me the necessary info if you have on how should I go about, the proceedings. Kindly request you to share with me urgently.

  1. This is a bad situation.

    First and foremost; the visa.

A lost or stolen visa cannot be replaced within the US. You must return to the issuing US Embassy or Consulate abroad and apply for a replacement, including a statement on the circumstances under which the visa was lost. Without a visa in her possession, your sister is an undocumented alien and ineligible to remain in the US.

For the passport, follow her home nations procedure's for reapplying for a lost or stolen passport.

For the I-94, she can file with USCIS for a replacement using form I-102. However, as she is going to have to leave the country in order to get a renewal visa, you may be able to skip this step and get a new I-94 when you re-enter the US with the new visa.

I don't know what problems you may encounter when you try to leave the US without an I-94, if any.

  2. She can obtain cpy of all lost documents.

  3. Well it really is a bad situation.

    Best option would be

file a police complaint and approach nearest  Indian embassy  and ask temporary passport for you. But to get a passport (temp) you have to prove to them all the circumstances you are in with the relevant documents like the passport copy and your issued visa copy if they issue you the passport then you can travel to your origin place and ask for the reinstatement of your US visa.so that you can come back . Good Luck.
