ok well i had a yellow belly slider and a african helmeted turtle in their enclosure during the week (i only got them on thursday off of someone that didnt want them!) and went away on friday for about an hour.

when i came home neither of them could be found!!!! iv looked everywhere i can think of and just cant find them!! there is a 2foot wide stram running along the side of our house (but they can swim against the current because i was playing with them in it about an hour before i lost them!) and it runs into a river! there are curbs around the garden and long grass in places, also there is a steep drop of about 10 feet into the stream in places!!!

do you think there is any chance of me ever seeing my turtles again??? my mate once lost a yellow belly and didnt find him untill a year later it was crossing the road infront of him!

please only serious answers as i want my turtles back, also will they last long in the wild in ireland??

  1. the best thing you can do is report your missing turtles to animal welfare, and put up posters around the area you live in  the turtles are not native to Ireland and it is more than likely they have got into the stream and gone, but if they are seen or captured you are more likely to get them back, there is a small possibility they will survive through winter as they will dig in the bank somewhere and hibernate, when they got out they would have headed for the nearest water, you may be Lucky and they might stay close it really depends on how many fish you have in the stream if there are not many they will head further out to find food, i hope you find them but with such a good home near by i would have thought they are gone and swimming happily

  2. Do you have raccoons in the area.  Or they could have made their way to the river
