Question:

Lost a piece of contact lens in my eye!?

Last night when I took out my contact lenses, I noticed that one of them was broken and missing a bit. I can only assume that the piece of the lens is still in my eye, but I can't really feel it or find it. I use daily disposable contact lenses which are soft so I must have torn it taking it out. Has this ever happened to anyone else. What should I do? Is it dangerous to have it still in my eye. I'm not sure if it's still in there or not but have no way of knowing really. Anyone have any experience with this sort of situation?

  1. never happened to me neither, but i guess that missing piece is no longer in your eye. i would also suggest the eye bath, but i wouldn't be worried too much.

obviously if you feel sth in next few days, go to your gp, that means that there something still there

  2. Do what your contact lens optician advised you when you first had contact lenses... In the event of any problems go to them immediately. They'll look in your eye and check if the piece is in there. It might have been torn before you put the lens in or it could have come out when you removed the lens. The only way you'll know is to have the optician check.

If the piece of lens is still in there then yes, it could cause problems. Just go to your lens provider, you may have to pay for the check but your eyes are priceless and irreplaceable so take care of them!

  3. More than likely the piece is not in your eye.  You probably wold be able to feel it as it would lodge itself under your lid.  You can rinse your eye, making sure to get up under the lids, with a stream of saline in attempt to wash it out in case it is in there.  Monitor your eye and if irritation arises, go to the eye doctor.

  4. Never happened to me, I suggest you use an eye bath then.

  5. I wear hard contacts, and I've frequently 'lost' them around the back of my eye (ouch!), but don't worry because anything that's in there that shouldn't be feels like a huge stone in your eye. It's likely that  you simply blinked the piece away and didn't even notice. You could try getting a simple eye wash from the Chemist just to be sure, but I wouldn't worry (if in doubt tho, go to the Optician!).

  6. never happened to me. it's probably because soft lenses are more sensitive. go to the doctor and he'll check if it's still in your eye and prescribe new lenses for you.
