Question:

Lost certificate of registration for British Passport?

I'm trying to renew my British Passport, and I can't locate my certificate of registration (I was born in Canada and registered by my British mum). The passport application and notes say that it is required, but I can't for the life of me find them. What should I do?

I can't phone the British High Commission, and their outsourced phone line is an outrageous $2.80/min. Grrr.

How absolutely necessary is it for my renewal? And if it's totally necessary, what are my options? Do I only need the number/date, or the whole physical document? How can I get the number if that's all I need?

Also, a question regarding the passport photos: the links on the website take me to ips.gov.uk where it says the pics must be B+W. However, on the official application notes page, it says either B+W and colour are fine. I only ask because I already had colour ones done, and I don't want to waste another twenty bucks. :)

Thanks in advance for you help.
