Lost contact with former co-worker, best way to get back in touch directly?

My friend is not on Linkedin as far as I can tell, and google searches of his name yield little, any ideas or recommendations

Does this person still work for the former company in which you both worked for?  If so, contact the main number and ask for him.

Or you can post an ad on Craigslist.com asking to get in touch with so and so, last known whereabouts - anytown, etc.
