So I got a check from an insurance company. It was a settlement for an auto accident caused by one of their clients.

Anyway, I seem to have lost the check amidst the chaos of a party I had the day I recieved it.

What do you think are the odds I can get them to put that check on hold or void it and they send me another one?

  1. ~~They have to pay you, so contact them ands tell them the check is lost. They will stop payment on it and issue you a new one.~~

  2. No problem.  Call the adjuster, tell them to put a stop pay on the check, and they'll issue you another one in 30 days.

  3. You shouldn't have a problem doing this.

I know the health insurance company I used to work for would do a stop pay and then reissue a new check.  I presume any legitimate auto insurer would do the same.

Of course, it will take some time to put on the stop pay and confirm with the bank that everything is okay before reissuing another check.  But getting your payment reissued within 30 days is certainly better than not getting it reissued at all.  :)

  4. Most legitimate companies will put a stopayment on a check and issue a new one. Contact the issiung insurance company and tell them what happened. Unless somone has forged your name you should have no problem.
